Shot of the Week: Chocolate Cake and The Commitment

A few weeks ago, the crew (or most of it) and I went out to New York City. Well, Tyler and I. Phil already lives there. Regardless, three quarters of Team Totally Awesome was in the Big Apple, and half of us watched the Yankees beat the ever living shit out of the Red Sox, which always makes me happy. I was in the mood to celebrate, and Tyler was in the mood to drink the memories away. This led us to Radio Perfecto, the bar that the lovely Boobsquad girl of July 2004, Krystal, waitresses at. Thanks to her incredible employee discount and the generosity of Dave the bartender, we here at TTA are able to bring you the never-before-seen-or-even-conceived-of Team Totally Awesome Double Shot of the Week!

I wish we had some musical fanfare to accompany that. Anyway, on with the shots.

After a few pints, we decided that Radio Perfecto was the "perfecto" (please don't shoot me, that joke was begging to be made) place to do a Shot of the Week. Once we had Dave's expert opinion that the Chocolate Cake was the way to go, we gathered some fellow bar patrons who enjoy shooting hard liquor and ordered up a round of said shots. If you would like to do the same, you will need the following:
  • 1 lemon wedge, sugared
  • 1 part Frangelico
  • 1/2 part Stoli Vanilla
  • 1/2 part Absolut Citron

Combine the liquor into a shot glass, lick the sugar off the lemon wedge, and shoot. I can attest, personally, that I'll be damned if the shot doesn't taste exactly like a bite of chocolate cake. It's kinda creepy.
  • Fast forward the evening a bit. Everyone is liquored up and I feel like playing a prank on my friends. So I ask the people sitting next to me if anyone is ready for a commitment. Dave, having told me this trick the night before, says he's ready for one, and eventually Phil, Tyler and our friend Hannah all agree to take this shot. If you think you’re ready for a Commitment, this is how it's done.

First, everyone has to agree to not ask what's in the shot, or sniff or taste it, before the actual doing of the shot. However, the person who asked the group must agree to also take the shot.

After that's taken care of, you'll need to put these three things into a shot glass:
  • 1 part Wild Turkey
  • 1 part Cuervo Gold
  • Tabasco sauce to taste

The tabasco is the kicker, and the trick is to use enough to make the shot a non-threatening pink color.
  • Anyway, shoot as you would any normal shot and watch the ridiculous faces ensue. If you're lucky, like I was with Tyler, one of your friends will probably vomit. Then you can tell them it's called a Commitment because "it leaves a warm feeling in your stomach and a bad taste in your mouth."

Well, that's that: the Double Shot of the Week. I had a wonderful time doing the fieldwork for these shots, and I have a feeling you'll have a good time reaping the rewards of our collective alcoholism.

Radio Perfecto is located at 1187 Amsterdam Ave between 118th and 119th Sts, Manhattan, NY, 10027.
