Shot of the Week: Jolly Rancher

Another week, another fruity shot I can use to get chicks drunk with. Sometimes being the Shotmeister at TTA has its advantages.

Who am I kidding? Being the Shotmeister always has its advantages. It's a pretty sweet gig, lemme tell you that. As soon as bars start giving us the shots for free, I'll have the best damn job in the world.

So, the Shot of the Week. Again done with Mr. Tim of I gotta make me some new damn friends.

This is a rather low-key week, so I'll try to keep it short. It's going to go fast, though, so try to keep up. We got no time for idiots here in Shotland. Only the ambitious drunks.

So, as per the norm, I rolled into this week's bar, Charlie's Kitchen, with no clear idea for a shot in mind. Someone had suggested a Red Death, but last week was the Red Headed Slut, and I don't want people to think I'm stuck in a holding pattern of red drinks. This leads me to, as usual, consult our bartender as to what, in her professional opinion, our shot should be. She looks at a list, picks out the Jolly Rancher, and then it was on. She asked that I take her face out of the pictures, but she was cute, and I'm a bastard, so no dice.

Anyway, if you'd like to know what she's mixing up in that shaker, fear not. I'm going to tell you.

To make a Jolly Rancher, you'll need:

  • 1 part Myers Dark Rum
  • 1 part Midori
  • 1 part Pineapple Juice

Shake these up with ice, put them in a shot glass, and, as usual, you're good to go.

  • I must say, this is a weird little shot. It doesn't burn, and it sorta tastes like apples, but not Jolly Rancher-style apples. Just like an apple. I easily could have done about fifteen more of them with Mr. Tim to really get a feel for the subtle intricacies of this particular shot, but, alas, money is always a problem, and I couldn't afford another round. Honestly, I couldn't afford the first round. Mr. Tim threw down for it. Never a more dedicated drunk have I met.

Shit, I'm ramblin'. The Jolly Rancher gets a full endorsement from Team Totally Awesome. Pour them down your throats like drinking was going out of style. Do it for me. Do it for Jesus. Do it for Mom and Dad.

Charlie's Kitchen is located at 10 Eliot Street in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA 02138.
